News has it that Denrele Edun, Goldie’s friend called blogger Linda Ikeji to spill the beans. According to Linda, Denrele called her in tears to say that Goldie died a few minutes ago in his arms at Reddington Hospital in Victoria Island. “Goldie just came back from the US today” he said, “and was so full of life, then something went tragically wrong”.  Me, I say…This life sef! It’s too short and one never knows when and how death will come. So sad the death of an icon and vivacious hardworking upcoming star that was quickly rising! And on Valentine’s Day too! 😮

DEC. 4, 2012: ENEBELI ELEBUWA: ACTOR EXTRAORDINAIRE RESTS

Nollywood veteran actor Enebeli Elebuwa, who is a member of the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN) died on Dec. 4th Tuesday night at an Indian hospital after battling with partial stroke for more than a year. He had been flown to an unnamed Indian hospital for proper medical attention after attempts to treat him at the St. Luke’s hospital, Sabo, Yaba, Lagos, Nigeria failed.

Early this year, controversial Nigerian man of God, Apostle Fireman posted a video on video sharing site, YouTube claiming to have healed the veteran actor of his partial stroke. The video showed Enebeli struggling to walk during the healing service done for him. The pastor thereafter claimed that in a matter of days, Enebeli would be able to walk well. The actor, soon after, denied the healing and was subsequently flown out of Nigeria after his condition worsened. He died in India.

Afterwards, Stella Damasus made public statements claiming that Enebeli had been abandoned by the industry at a time when he most needed their support. In her own words, “I’m very angry because the people in my industry are hypocrites. That man (Elebuwa) was ill for a long time in Lagos and they (actors) turned it into a fanfare. People would go and visit him and take pictures with him, post it on Twitter, on Facebook, on their blogs; they used it to make people feel that they are philanthropists but nobody lifted a finger to take care of him or help his family.” Speaking further Damasus added, “They are more interested in politics; who would be President, how they can visit dignitaries who would dash them money. Nobody cares about the elderly people in the industry. We know how to celebrate people when they die, but when they are alive what do we do for them, especially the sick ones? The Delta State Government eventually sponsored him to India. I’m just very pained.”

MAY HIS SOUL REST IN PERFECT PEACE.

AUG. 6, 2011: SAM LOCO EFE DIES IN “ACTIVE DUTY”, A GREAT ACTOR HE WAS!

The late Sam Loco Efe died apparently sitting on his seat in a hotel room of causes now suspected to be asthma. He was found dead on Sunday morning with Ventolin inhalers beside him in the hotel room where he lodged. The room was forced open after he failed to come down after retiring the previous night. He was in Owerri editing a yet untitled film.

On the night before his demise, he had, as usual, exchanged banter and jokes with friends and colleagues till about 11p.m. before retiring to his room. But the next morning when he didn’t come down for breakfast, worried colleagues went knocking on his door. Of course, they knew he was inside. And when no response came, they called me. I then advised that the hotel contact the police. And when the room was eventually opened, the cold body of Sam was found on a seat in the room. And on the table and the floor, the police were alleged to have found a canister or two of Ventolin inhalers.”

Unfulfilled Dream: Efe died without fulfilling the dream of taking a deserved rest at his Abakaliki, Ebonyi State farm house. His friend Steve Eboh said, “Because I was nominated for the City People Awards and couldn’t go to see him in Owerri, he told me he would first stop over at Yenagoa and on today travel to his farm in Abakaliki, Ebonyi to wait for me. He said he was going to the farm house to rest and take a break from the rigours of film shooting and editing. That never happened because he died the next morning.” President Goodluck Jonathan, Governor Babatunde Fashola of Lagos State and all Nigerians mourn(ed) with the family of the late actor.

MAY HE REST IN PERFECT PEACE WITH GOD.
